SUMMARY:Mariel Buckley Duo
DESCRIPTION:Blizzard Music Festival and Trail & District Arts Council present \nMariel Buckley Duo \nat NEW VENUE! Tickets now ONLY available through the Blizzard Fest website. Tickets can be purchased from Blizzardfest here https://blizzardmusicfest.tickit.ca/events/21911 Tickets are $35 plus taxes and fees. \nPurchasing a Blizzard Music Fest Pass? Mariel Buckley’s performance is included in your Pass…no need to buy a separate ticket. Watch for Blizzard Music Fest passes to go on sale around Nov 1st through the Blizzard Music Fest website. \nTrail & District Arts Council and Blizzard Music Festival present country/alt-folk singer-songwriter Mariel Buckley. Unapologetically genuine\, wry\, and soft-hearted\, Mariel Buckley aims to find herself squarely on the fringes: singing and writing songs for the underdog. \nHer candor and magnetic live shows have been charming listeners across North America since her debut LP\, “Driving In The Dark” [2018]. With some impressive accolades on the way including Roots Artist of the Year (Western Canadian Music Awards\, 2019)\, and taking home the grandprize of $100\,000 from the year long Project Wild commercial radio artist contest. \nNow\, with her follow-up album “Everywhere I Used To Be” [2022]\, Buckley looks to turn country/folk music on its head. Delivered with Buckley’s signature crooning brand of angst-ridden alt-folk\, anchored by the haunting whine of the pedal steel\, and rounded out by heavy synth pads\, the resulting collection is a driving\, swooning\, toe-tapping catharsis. \nWorking with producer Marcus Paquin (The Weather Station\, The Barr Brothers\, Arcade Fire\, TheNational)\, Buckley made an intentional move towards decidedly pop/contemporary production while leaving the space necessary for the songs to speak. Her mysterious ambiguity around genre\, traditional storytelling\, and identity is what gives these new songs such an honest shine. Buckley continues to be a trailblazer\, with a firm grip on the steering wheel and a destination in mind – we’re just happy to be along for the ride. \n“Buckley offers touchstones to anyone who has felt the same frustrations and feelings of being a misfit\, letting them know they’re not alone and that they too can find themselves.” – Fatea Records \n“Buckley’s been fine tuning her vision for years now\, and she deserves to be talked about in the same breath as the artists who inspire her.” – Exclaim! Magazine \nMariel Buckley’s show is part of the Blizzard Music Festival. Tickets to this show will be included in the Blizzard Music Festival Pass. If you intend to purchase a Blizzard Music Festival pass\, you do not need to purchase tickets to Mariel Buckley performance through this website. Blizzard Fest passes will go on sale in November 2023. Blizzard Music Festival runs annually during the last weekend of January. \nMariel Buckley’s show is made possible thanks to funding from the BC Arts Council\, BC Touring Council\, the Government of Canada\, and Tourism South Kootenay. We also gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia.
