New patron must not already be in our database and must join our email list.\n\ntaqəš and Other Works program features a stunning line-up of signature works from Ballet Kelowna’s contemporary ballet repertoire. With John Alleyne’s methodically harmonized Split House Geometric\, Guillaume Côté’s riveting Bolero\, and Cameron Fraser-Monroe’s powerful and compelling taqəš\, this dynamic program promises to captivate audiences. \nIn John Alleyne’s Split House Geometric (1989-1990)\, poetic moments of pure contemporary ballet are juxtaposed with staccato movements with bodies creating geometric shapes to brilliant effect. First created for The National Ballet of Canada\, this vigorous\, precision-perfect work is set to Arvo Pärt’s Fratres. \nNext\, National Ballet of Canada Choreographic Associate Guillaume Côté brings strength and fragility to a fascinating interpretation of the beloved Bolero by Maurice Ravel\, one of music’s most famous and identifiable melodies. A “riveting tour de force” (Dance Magazine)\, Bolero (2012) features breath-taking lifts and virtuosic choreography. View the Bolero trailer here \n \nRounding out the program is taqəš\, (2021)\, which means “to return something” in Ayajuthem\, the language belonging to the Homalco\, Klahoose\, K’omoks and Tla’amin Nations. Visionary choreographer Cameron Fraser-Monroe brings his classical ballet training\, knowledge of traditional Coast Salish\, Grass\, Hoop Dance\, and experience as a contemporary dancer to this poignant piece. Here is a writer that takes you on a tour of your own feelings in a way that leaves you grasping for your own heart just to make sure it’s still in your chest. \nSansei: The Storyteller and Yamabiko Taiko Drummers (double bill): Tuesday April 18 2023 – Sansei: The Storyteller uses dance\, theatre\, and humour to tell the story of one of Canada’s darkest decisions and how the rampant racism of past generations affects the Japanese community today. The Yamabiko Taiko Drummers will close out the evening with their high energy performance! \nHuu-Bac Quintet: Tuesday May 2\, 2023 – Montreal based Huu Bac Quach and his quintet skillfully combine his Vietnamese and Chinese heritages with North-American jazz music. His beautiful compositions feature the dan bau (single chord Vietnamese instrument)\, the erhu (Chinese fiddle)\, the quena (Peruvian flute) and the guitar. \nThe Performing Arts Trail series is sponsored by Teck Trail Operations\, Pharmasave Trail and Century 21 Kootenay Homes (2018) Ltd. DESCRIPTION:Trail & District Arts Council and the Trail Community Action Team present Lucas Myers in Roof on March 9th 2022 at 7:30PM at the Bailey Theatre. \nIndividual Adult Ticket: $25.\nIndividual Ticket 30 years old and under (with ID) $10\n2 for 1 Medical Employee & 2 for 1 New Patron Offers – visit or call the box office to redeem. \nIn ROOF\, a humorous yet socially conscious one-person show\, Lucas Myers weaves together elements of stand-up comedy\, physical theatre\, and his trademark brand of observational humor to tell the story of Dave and Stevie. \nDave is a highly successful real estate agent who is living the dream: hot car\, great kids\, beautiful wife\, gorgeous sound system\, designer kitchen. Just as he is about to launch his own self-improvement video series\, #HiMyNameIsDave\, he discovers major issues with his roof and cracks begin to form in his perfect world. Enter Stevie\, a journeyman roofer with aspirations of being a stand-up comic\, who is the only person capable of dealing with Dave’s narcissistic hyper vigilance. As they attempt to collaborateon the roof project\, Stevie forces Dave to confront his shortcomings and come to terms with what being a good person really means. As their initial views of each other are challenged\, ROOF examines our preconceptions around mental health\, addiction\, and homelessness as the characters are forced to confront their own assumptions. \nCreated and performed by Lucas Myers\, the creator of A Beginners Guide to Nelsonia\, CAMPGROUND and DECK. \nPlease note: This performance is not suitable for children. \nThere will be a short post-show chat\, free naloxone kits will be distributed and a counselor will be on location to help anyone who needs to talk. \nAudience Responses:\n“Sometimes life lessons come from the most unexpected places. DESCRIPTION:La Cafamore presents \nMusic of the Mendelssohns: String Quartets by Fanny & Felix Mendelssohn \nMonday March 27th at 7:30 pm at The Trail United Church – 1300 PIne Ave\, Trail \nTickets $20.  General Admission. Children 12 and under are free and do not need a ticket. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Masks are recommended but not mandatory.  \nPerforming as a string quartet\, La Cafamore presents Music of the Mendelssohns featuring two string quartets composed by the incredibly talented siblings Fanny & Felix Mendelssohn. La Cafamore is Carolyn Cameron (violin)\,  Kaito Takeda (viola)\, Natasha Hall (violin) and Maria Wang (cello).  \nCarolyn Cameron is a founding member of La Cafamore and has  performed and managed the group for over 10 years. She received her musical  training on piano & violin in Saskatoon and has used her knowledge as a  performer\, teacher\, adjudicator and composer. She has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra\, the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra\, the Regina  Symphony and the Symphony of the Kootenays. Carolyn lives in Rossland.   \nMaria Wang – Born in Taipei\, Taiwan\, Maria began her musical  training on the piano and later on the cello at age 13. After pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at West Virginia University\, Maria moved to  Victoria with her family and completed a Master of Music degree in Cello Performance at the University of Victoria in 2014\, studying under the tutelage of Pamela Highbaugh-Aloni\, the cellist of the renown Lafayette String  Quartet. Since then\, Maria has been actively teaching at local music programs\, including Sooke Music Academy Orchestra\, Windstar Music  Academy\, and Sooke Harmony Project. She also enjoys teaching privately on the cello and beginner piano in Victoria. \nKaito Takeda – Based in Victoria\, B.C.\, multi-instrumentalist Kaito Takeda brings his passion for music to many stages. Crossing musical genres\, Kai has performed with various ensembles including the Victoria Symphony as well as arranging and performing with his band\, Auburn Blind\, and string quartet\, Breakwater Quartet. He has recently found a passion in copyist work as well as enjoying the challenges that come with the precision necessary to work as a session musician for film scores and albums. \nNatasha Hall – Prior to her recent move back to her hometown of Nelson BC\, Natasha spent the last decade based in London UK and is a member of the English Chamber Orchestra. She has performed regularly with the BBC Symphony Orchestra\, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra\, Royal Northern Sinfonia\, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Aurora Orchestra. Natasha has received numerous awards for her violin performances and is a winner of the Calgary Concerto and Morningside Music Bridge Chamber Music Competitions. \nTwo sets with a 15min intermission. Doors open 30 minutes before show time. Tickets can be picked up at the door on show night. Or at the Bailey Theatre Box Office during regular box office hours Mon-Friday 12 -4 pm.
