SUMMARY:Petunia and the Vipers and The Judy Brown Band at Music in the Park's The Night Market
DESCRIPTION:Just a heads up that due to possible bad weather the market and food trucks will not happen this Thursday at Music in the Park because of the advance planning and prep that is needed. The beer and wine garden will still run from 5-9 pm with live music starting at 6:15 pm!\n\n\nEverything will happen at Trail’s Gyro Park\, but if weather does not permit on the day we will move the music and bar to the Bailey Theatre in Trail. An announcement will be made before noon on the day of.\n\nJoin us for an awesome evening of food vendors\, market\, beer & wine garden as “The Judy Brown Band” open for “Petunia and the Vipers” at The Night Market from 5 pm to 8:30 pm for an evening of roots music meets hillbilly-flavoured-swing inflected-ragtime. \nJudy Brown is a Canadian roots music singer\, songwriter and guitarist\, influenced by the likes of Bonnie Raitt\, Van Morrison and Muddy Waters. She began in Alberta before moving to Toronto. In 2016 she moved to Nelson\, reuniting with long time award winning musical friends\, collaborators and producers Gary Kendall and Teddy Leonard. \n“A voice capable of being both gritty and soulful.” – Errol Nazareth\, CBC Radio. \nFor more info on Judy Brown visit judybrownmusic.com. \nHeadlining tonight are “Petunia & the Vipers”. Their sound may not sit comfortably in one certain genre:  \nHank Williams on acid. \nImagine that David Lynch and Nick Cave had a hillbilly baby\, that yodeled. \nTom Waits meets Elvis at Woody Guthrie’s Hobo junction. \nAvant-Country night club scene music. \nOne of the best bands in the world today\, of any kind. \nHillbilly-flavoured-swing inflected-ragtime-goodtime-thunderously rolling-one-of-a-kind-you-don’t-want-to-miss-this-sort-of-a-show. \nSomething in between 1920’s and steam punk.  \nThese are just a few of the words uttered by folks around the globe trying to pin down a description of all that is “Petunia & The Vipers”. \n“Petunia and the Vipers” includes Stephen Nikleva on electric guitar. He’s a 40+ year veteran of the touring circuit and former member of Ray Condo and the Ricochets fame\, as well as the Sarah McGlaughlin band. He has been quoted by Exene of the punk rock band “X” as being “One of the 10 best guitar players alive today” and noted by Dave Alvin (“and the Guilty Ones” band) to be\, “the intimidating guitar player”.  \nStephen is joined by Jimmy Roy on the lapsteel guitar (an early version of the pedalsteel guitar)\, perhaps one of the last great lapsteel guitar virtuosos still alive and touring. Another 40+ year touring veteran\, Jimmy has played with Wanda Jackson\, Ray Condo and the Ricochets\, Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boys\, and a host of other Canadian roots bands.  \nTogether these two vets form the musical foundation of the band dealing out fiery solos and lush arrangements. \n“REAL UNDERGROUND MUSIC. Foot-tapping country & western laced with rock and jazz.” – The New York Post \n“…if Mr. Tarantino reads this\, I highly suggest he give Petunia [and the Vipers] a listen because it’s a collection of songs so cinematic\, so Americana and so instantly classic that it’s made just for him. And you too!” – Randi Beers\, Exclaim Magazine \nMusic in the Park is held at Trail’s Gyro Park every Thursday starting at 6.15 pm\, except for the Night Market shows on July 7 and August 4 when the event will run from 5 pm.
