A unique project developed entirely during the COVID-19 crisis. \nOn a sunny Sunday afternoon in June 2013\, singer Pat Henman\, was driving home on the highway with her 19-year-old daughter\, Maia\, when they were struck head-on by a drunk driver. Although both survived\, their physical injuries remain. The emotional toll on their well-being\, and that of their family\, has become a story that inspired Pat to express the intensity and joy of a life changing event in the only way she knew how—on stage with songs. \nPart storytelling\, part concert\, Pat tells the story of trauma and recovery in this unique and passionate one act drama with music. Embracing the many colours of survival Canadian playwright and Genie Award nominee\, Kelly Rebar\, adapted her words while Canadian musician and composer\, Konrad Pluta helped express them. These talented artists are joined by Theatre Director\, writer and performer\, Tracey Power\, an award-winning BC artist\, to bring Pat’s story to life. \nAs Pat narrates her story\, she is joined on stage by two Nelson artists. Sydney Black is well known as a performing artist\, as well as a producer (Black Productions) of musicals such as Mamma Mia! and Cabaret. Here Sydney uses her singing talents to elevate the spoken word as musician Robyn Lamb accompanies. Robyn\, a graduate of classical music from McGill University and Vancouver Community College\, was the musical director for Mamma Mia! In Nelson\, and is preparing her one woman show\, Me\, Myself and Ireland\, to present at the city’s Capitol Theatre. \nPat describes the importance of music in her story. “Theatre is storytelling; musical theatre adds an extra element that supports the text\, a thread that connects thoughts\, driving the plot. Music can express what sometimes the spoken word can’t always do. Konrad’s songs are wildly dramatic and emotional. I get goose bumps listening to them.” \nPat is a veteran of Canadian theatre as actor\, singer\, and director\, with radio\, television and film credits spanning over a 40-year career in the performing arts. She recently directed Mamma Mia! in Nelson\, BC. Pat received a Special Citation in recognition for her “considerable Contribution to Arts\, Culture and Heritage in the City of Nelson\, BC” in 2018\, and was nominated for the Courage to Come Back Award in 2015. She is an appointed director of the BC Arts Council and the Pacific Regional Victims Advisory Committee. She is also an active volunteer for MADD Canada. \nCreated with support from the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance\, the Amy Ferguson Institute\, the Nelson Civic Theatre Artist in Residence Program\, and the Canada Council for the Arts. Pat would like to express her gratitude for the support shown to her by her family\, her creative team\, her cast\, and the funding agents that believed in this project. \nTickets may be purchased online 24/7 or by calling the Box Office at 250-368-9669 from Monday to Friday 12-4 pm. \nHow to Access the Livestream Show: \n1.
