However seats immediately in front or behind your selected seats will not be blocked and will be sold. \nMontreal Guitar Trio (MG3) and California Guitar Trio (CGT) have combined their passion and talent to create a great evening of guitar. A unique opportunity to hear six virtuoso guitarists from four countries (Japan\, Canada\, Belgium\, and US)\, playing original compositions and innovative arrangements of everything from movie soundtracks\, progressive rock ’n’ roll\, world\, jazz\, and classical music. Inspired by an impromptu studio session together in Montreal in 2009\, CGT’s steel stringed-guitars blend naturally with MG3’s nylon-stringed guitars. CGT and MG3 have toured together extensively in North America\, playing everything from Queen\, The Beatles\, Pink Floyd\, and Rush\, to original compositions by the members of MG3 and CGT. \nThe Montreal Guitar Trio were described by the CBC as “the hottest guitar ensemble in Canada.” Founded in 1998\, and coming from a classical background\, members sing and write much of their material\, and have given hundreds of concerts in North America and Europe. The trio’s eclectic sound\, where jazz and world music intertwine\, takes listeners on a journey through many cultures — from the exotic melodies of India to the hot rhythms of South America\, by way of the Balkans and the traditional music of Quebec. Montreal Guitar Trio band members are Sébastien Dufour\, Marc Morin and Glenn Lévesque. \nThe California Guitar Trio’s stunning virtuosity and sly sense of humor have earned them an enthusiastic following in the progressive\, acoustic\, and classical music scenes. Fusing classical\, rock\, blues\, jazz\, world music\, progressive\, and quintessential California ‘surf music’\, the Trio has been featured on everything from the Olympics to the wake-up music for the crew aboard NASA’s Space Shuttle Endeavor. Over the past 14 years of nearly incessant touring\, the California Guitar Trio has shared the stage with superb musicians and performers such as: King Crimson\, Jon Anderson\, Tito Puente\, Taj Mahal\, Peter Rowan and Tony Rice\, Dark Star Orchestra\, Leftover Salmon\, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum\, David Sylvian\, Adrian Legg\, Kaki King and many more. The trio is comprised of Paul Richards of Salt Lake City\, Utah\, Bert Lams of Brussels\, Belgium\, and Hideyo Moriya of Tokyo\, who first met in England at one of Robert Fripp’s Guitar Craft Courses in 1987. After completing several of these intensive courses\, the three toured worldwide with Fripp’s League of Crafty Guitarists. \n“If you think you have heard guitar music\, you haven’t heard these six fill the room with sound”. — The Sun Valley Journal\, Idaho 2013 \n“… this ensemble is much more than a simple guitar sextet…The experience is unique!” — Yves Bernard\, Le Devoir\, 2012 \nTwo 45 minute sets with a 20 minute intermission. \nTickets can be picked up at The Bailey Box Office Mon-Friday betweeen 12 – 4 pm. No Intermission. \nAbout The Marc Atkinson Trio \nAfter more than two decades of musical output\, Marc Atkinson is both difficult to define and readily identifiable. He is first and foremost a masterful acoustic guitarist who combines lyricism\, rhythmic precision\, and technical mastery into a distinctive guitar voice. That voice is further defined by Atkinson’s significant talents as a composer of lush and melodic original works. His virtuosity and compositional strengths are showcased in the recordings and live performances of the Marc Atkinson Trio\, the internationally renowned acoustic trio described by Jurgen Goethe as “one of the top ten of the world’s working string\ntrios.” \nThe current Trio includes Jody Rutherford (guitar)\, Scott White (bass). And for this performance they’re being joined by Cameron Wilson\, a violinist and composer known for his genre-crossing virtuosity and near-limitless musical creativity. Wilson plays with the National Broadcast Orchestra\, Van Django\, and Mariachi del Sol (amongst other ensembles); his compositions have been heard on the CBC\, NPR\, and the venerable BBC; and he’s recorded with everyone from Bryan Adams to Spirit of the West. \nAtkinson is arguably as well known for his contributions to Canada’s roots/acoustic music super group\, The Bills\, where he “explores his mandolin personality\,” while also contributing guitar instrumentals\, vocals\, and original compositions. One of the group’s founding members\, Atkinson is featured on all five of The Bills’ CDs\, including two Juno nominated albums. Along the way\, Atkinson has emerged as a skilled record producer\, taking the helm on recordings not only for the Marc Atkinson Trio\, and the Bills\, but also for a growing list of international music artists. Atkinson has earned producing credits on dozens of CDs\, most of\nthem recorded at The Barn Studio on Hornby Island\, the professional sound studio he opened in 2010. \nWhile Atkinson is distinctly uncomfortable discussing music awards\, he is the recipient of many of them. He is a Juno nominee and winner of two Western Canadian Music Awards\, including a nomination for Outstanding Album Award. His CD\, The Marc Atkinson Trio II\, was voted one of the top five albums in North America by Acoustic Guitar Magazine\, and his music has been published in Guitar Player Magazine.Marc received the 2021 Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year at Canadian Folk Music Awards. \n“It’s not just that Atkinson is so technically proficient that he can spin out seemingly impossible-to-play\, breathtaking lines at will\, it’s the emotional nuance and sense of humour in his work that are so engaging. Drawing on classical\, jazz\, roots\, and even some rock traditions\, he dips into a deep well he has visited many times to surprise and delight his audience with new takes on old tunes and sensitive renderings of his own highly melodic compositions.” Rick Gibbs\, Island Jazz \nOur programs are made possible by funding support from the BC Arts Council\, the Government of British Columbia\, and the BC Touring Council.
