SUMMARY:The Fugitives headline with openers Rumour Mill at Kootenay Savings Music in the Park
DESCRIPTION:The perfect pairing of indie-folk duo “Rumour Mill” followed by Brendan McLeod’s modern folk quartet “The Fugitives”. \nOpening the evening is “Rumour Mill“\, an indie-folk duo headed by multi-instrumentalists\, Anna Katarina and Aline Daigle\, currently residing in beautiful Nelson\, BC. Imagine the sounds of Fleetwood Mac\, Brandi Carlile and First Aid Kit melding with a lush topography of violin\, harmonies\, keys\, guitar and mandolin. \nTheir debut EP\, “Daylight’s Free”\, released in April 2019\, quickly earned respect and attention on the international stage – charting in the top 100 in US College Radio\, leading to a nomination for Artist of the Year at the 2019 Kootenay Music Awards\, Top 100 in CBC Searchlight\, and a full scholarship to the 2020 International Folk Alliance Conference in New Orleans\, LA. \nIn September 2020\, they released “Gone With The Wine”. The self-produced EP sees the duo mature in their sound\, ringing with a touch of a broken heartedness\, and pivoting slightly from their more happy-go-lucky debut.\nWith melancholic melodies\, soulful harmonies and lyrics that weave the listener through an exploration of timeless themes\, these ladies will sweep you off your feet and leave you wanting more! \nHeadlining at 7pm are “The Fugitives“\, a dynamic modern folk quartet\, with 4-part harmony and a variety of instruments (guitar\, bass\, kick-drum\, banjo\, violin\, balalaika and harmonica). They jump from foot-stomping sing-alongs to show-stopping a capella ballads to insightful political and storytelling songs. \nA folk collective headed by songwriters Adrian Glynn and Brendan McLeod\, the band has toured extensively through Canada\, Western Europe\, and the UK. They’re joined by banjo player Chris Suen (Viper Central) and violinist Carly Frey (The Coal Porters). Over the past twelve years\, they’ve earned a reputation for unforgettable live shows\, brimming with complex harmonies\, infectious storytelling and top-notch musicianship. \nTheir most recent album\, “The Promise of Strangers” was nominated for Canadian Folk and Western Canadian Music Awards and won Best Folk Album of 2019 from the German Music Critic’s Association. Their previous album\, “Everything Will Happen”\, spent ten weeks on the top ten Canadian folk charts\, and earned them a support slot across Western Canada with Buffy Sainte-Marie and an appearance at UK’s Glastonbury Festival. Performance highlights include major folk festivals across Canada\, headlining slots in overseas americana festivals\, and a 2019 sold-out run across Germany. \n“Despite their all-acoustic lineup\, the Fugitives bring enough energy to the stage to light up a small city… a sound that’s like the missing link between Leonard Cohen and the Pogues.”— Georgia Straight \nMusic in the Park is held at Trail’s Gyro Park every Thursday starting at 6.15 pm\, except for the Night Market shows on July 7 and August 4 when the event will run from 5 pm. SUMMARY:Petunia and the Vipers and The Judy Brown Band at Music in the Park's The Night Market
DESCRIPTION:Just a heads up that due to possible bad weather the market and food trucks will not happen this Thursday at Music in the Park because of the advance planning and prep that is needed. The beer and wine garden will still run from 5-9 pm with live music starting at 6:15 pm!\n\n\nEverything will happen at Trail’s Gyro Park\, but if weather does not permit on the day we will move the music and bar to the Bailey Theatre in Trail. An announcement will be made before noon on the day of.\n\nJoin us for an awesome evening of food vendors\, market\, beer & wine garden as “The Judy Brown Band” open for “Petunia and the Vipers” at The Night Market from 5 pm to 8:30 pm for an evening of roots music meets hillbilly-flavoured-swing inflected-ragtime. \nJudy Brown is a Canadian roots music singer\, songwriter and guitarist\, influenced by the likes of Bonnie Raitt\, Van Morrison and Muddy Waters. She began in Alberta before moving to Toronto. In 2016 she moved to Nelson\, reuniting with long time award winning musical friends\, collaborators and producers Gary Kendall and Teddy Leonard. \n“A voice capable of being both gritty and soulful.” – Errol Nazareth\, CBC Radio. \nFor more info on Judy Brown visit judybrownmusic.com. \nHeadlining tonight are “Petunia & the Vipers”. Their sound may not sit comfortably in one certain genre:  \nHank Williams on acid. \nImagine that David Lynch and Nick Cave had a hillbilly baby\, that yodeled. \nTom Waits meets Elvis at Woody Guthrie’s Hobo junction. \nAvant-Country night club scene music. \nOne of the best bands in the world today\, of any kind. \nHillbilly-flavoured-swing inflected-ragtime-goodtime-thunderously rolling-one-of-a-kind-you-don’t-want-to-miss-this-sort-of-a-show. \nSomething in between 1920’s and steam punk.  \nThese are just a few of the words uttered by folks around the globe trying to pin down a description of all that is “Petunia & The Vipers”. \n“Petunia and the Vipers” includes Stephen Nikleva on electric guitar. He’s a 40+ year veteran of the touring circuit and former member of Ray Condo and the Ricochets fame\, as well as the Sarah McGlaughlin band. He has been quoted by Exene of the punk rock band “X” as being “One of the 10 best guitar players alive today” and noted by Dave Alvin (“and the Guilty Ones” band) to be\, “the intimidating guitar player”.  \nStephen is joined by Jimmy Roy on the lapsteel guitar (an early version of the pedalsteel guitar)\, perhaps one of the last great lapsteel guitar virtuosos still alive and touring. Another 40+ year touring veteran\, Jimmy has played with Wanda Jackson\, Ray Condo and the Ricochets\, Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boys\, and a host of other Canadian roots bands.  \nTogether these two vets form the musical foundation of the band dealing out fiery solos and lush arrangements. \n“REAL UNDERGROUND MUSIC. Foot-tapping country & western laced with rock and jazz.” – The New York Post \n“…if Mr. Tarantino reads this\, I highly suggest he give Petunia [and the Vipers] a listen because it’s a collection of songs so cinematic\, so Americana and so instantly classic that it’s made just for him. And you too!” – Randi Beers\, Exclaim Magazine \nMusic in the Park is held at Trail’s Gyro Park every Thursday starting at 6.15 pm\, except for the Night Market shows on July 7 and August 4 when the event will run from 5 pm. SUMMARY:The Stampeders-Celebrating 50 Years
DESCRIPTION:Shantero Productions presents \nTHE STAMPEDERS – CELEBRATING 50 YEARS \nJune 18 at 7:30 pm – The Bailey Theatre \nTickets $66.50 – Trail Arts Council members can purchase tickets starting at 12 noon on Tuesday March 29th. Purchase your membership on line or call the box office at 250-368-9669 to purchase your membership and your tickets. On sale to the general public a 12 noon on Friday April 1st. \n‘They’re on their way\, to the city lights’. THE predominant Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roll band of the 1970s – The Stampeders – are bringing along all their classic hits: “Wild Eyes”\, “Carry Me”\, “Oh My Lady”\, “Devil You”\, “Monday Morning Choo Choo”\, “Minstrel Gypsy”\, “Hit the Road Jack” and\, of course\, the quintessential Canadian – and Hall of Fame – song\, “Sweet City Woman”! A veritable soundtrack to a whole generation that will ‘carry you home’ … maybe not to Birmingham … but back to a time of tie-dyed t-shirts and elevator shoes\, 15¢ coffee and homemade apple pie\, dating and dreaming. By the time The Stampeders get to the first chorus of the first song\, everyone will be singing along. \nNo seventies group represented Canada’s musical identity to the world like The Stampeders. A quick look at Canada’s music scene from 1971 until 1976 confirms them as the country’s international musical ambassadors\, touring more extensively in Canada and overseas than any other Canadian group during that time. In 1977 the trio: Rich Dodson (lead guitar)\, Kim Berly (drums) and Ronnie King (bass) parted company but reunited\, fittingly\, at the Calgary Stampede\, 15 years later in 1992. Since then they’ve been recognized by SOCAN for their Lifetime Achievement\, been inducted into the SOCAN Songwriters Hall of Fame on five occasions and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame for their 1971 seminal hit “Sweet City Woman”.\nThe enduring musical legacy of The Stampeders\, celebrating 50 years… ‘better catch a noon train\, better get there for a rock ‘n’ rolling good time!’ \nWatch the Stampeders here. \nCOVID Protocols\n•Theatre Capacity is 100% (735 people) for this event.\n•As of March 11th\, masks are recommended but not mandatory.\n•At this time\, proof of vaccination is required but is scheduled to be lifted April 8th.\n•COVID protocols are subject to change depending on the COVID Climate and BC Provincial Health Orders.\n•Doors open 30 minutes prior to show time.\n•Not feeling well?
