SUMMARY:Petunia and the Vipers and The Judy Brown Band at Music in the Park's The Night Market
DESCRIPTION:Just a heads up that due to possible bad weather the market and food trucks will not happen this Thursday at Music in the Park because of the advance planning and prep that is needed. The beer and wine garden will still run from 5-9 pm with live music starting at 6:15 pm!\n\n\nEverything will happen at Trail’s Gyro Park\, but if weather does not permit on the day we will move the music and bar to the Bailey Theatre in Trail. An announcement will be made before noon on the day of.\n\nJoin us for an awesome evening of food vendors\, market\, beer & wine garden as “The Judy Brown Band” open for “Petunia and the Vipers” at The Night Market from 5 pm to 8:30 pm for an evening of roots music meets hillbilly-flavoured-swing inflected-ragtime. \nJudy Brown is a Canadian roots music singer\, songwriter and guitarist\, influenced by the likes of Bonnie Raitt\, Van Morrison and Muddy Waters. She began in Alberta before moving to Toronto. In 2016 she moved to Nelson\, reuniting with long time award winning musical friends\, collaborators and producers Gary Kendall and Teddy Leonard. \n“A voice capable of being both gritty and soulful.” – Errol Nazareth\, CBC Radio. \nFor more info on Judy Brown visit judybrownmusic.com. \nHeadlining tonight are “Petunia & the Vipers”. Their sound may not sit comfortably in one certain genre:  \nHank Williams on acid. \nImagine that David Lynch and Nick Cave had a hillbilly baby\, that yodeled. \nTom Waits meets Elvis at Woody Guthrie’s Hobo junction. \nAvant-Country night club scene music. \nOne of the best bands in the world today\, of any kind. \nHillbilly-flavoured-swing inflected-ragtime-goodtime-thunderously rolling-one-of-a-kind-you-don’t-want-to-miss-this-sort-of-a-show. \nSomething in between 1920’s and steam punk.  \nThese are just a few of the words uttered by folks around the globe trying to pin down a description of all that is “Petunia & The Vipers”. \n“Petunia and the Vipers” includes Stephen Nikleva on electric guitar. He’s a 40+ year veteran of the touring circuit and former member of Ray Condo and the Ricochets fame\, as well as the Sarah McGlaughlin band. He has been quoted by Exene of the punk rock band “X” as being “One of the 10 best guitar players alive today” and noted by Dave Alvin (“and the Guilty Ones” band) to be\, “the intimidating guitar player”.  \nStephen is joined by Jimmy Roy on the lapsteel guitar (an early version of the pedalsteel guitar)\, perhaps one of the last great lapsteel guitar virtuosos still alive and touring. Another 40+ year touring veteran\, Jimmy has played with Wanda Jackson\, Ray Condo and the Ricochets\, Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boys\, and a host of other Canadian roots bands.  \nTogether these two vets form the musical foundation of the band dealing out fiery solos and lush arrangements. \n“REAL UNDERGROUND MUSIC. Foot-tapping country & western laced with rock and jazz.” – The New York Post \n“…if Mr. Tarantino reads this\, I highly suggest he give Petunia [and the Vipers] a listen because it’s a collection of songs so cinematic\, so Americana and so instantly classic that it’s made just for him. And you too!” – Randi Beers\, Exclaim Magazine \nMusic in the Park is held at Trail’s Gyro Park every Thursday starting at 6.15 pm\, except for the Night Market shows on July 7 and August 4 when the event will run from 5 pm. SUMMARY:The Stampeders-Celebrating 50 Years
DESCRIPTION:Shantero Productions presents \nTHE STAMPEDERS – CELEBRATING 50 YEARS \nJune 18 at 7:30 pm – The Bailey Theatre \nTickets $66.50 – Trail Arts Council members can purchase tickets starting at 12 noon on Tuesday March 29th. Purchase your membership on line or call the box office at 250-368-9669 to purchase your membership and your tickets. On sale to the general public a 12 noon on Friday April 1st. \n‘They’re on their way\, to the city lights’. THE predominant Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roll band of the 1970s – The Stampeders – are bringing along all their classic hits: “Wild Eyes”\, “Carry Me”\, “Oh My Lady”\, “Devil You”\, “Monday Morning Choo Choo”\, “Minstrel Gypsy”\, “Hit the Road Jack” and\, of course\, the quintessential Canadian – and Hall of Fame – song\, “Sweet City Woman”! A veritable soundtrack to a whole generation that will ‘carry you home’ … maybe not to Birmingham … but back to a time of tie-dyed t-shirts and elevator shoes\, 15¢ coffee and homemade apple pie\, dating and dreaming. By the time The Stampeders get to the first chorus of the first song\, everyone will be singing along. \nNo seventies group represented Canada’s musical identity to the world like The Stampeders. A quick look at Canada’s music scene from 1971 until 1976 confirms them as the country’s international musical ambassadors\, touring more extensively in Canada and overseas than any other Canadian group during that time. In 1977 the trio: Rich Dodson (lead guitar)\, Kim Berly (drums) and Ronnie King (bass) parted company but reunited\, fittingly\, at the Calgary Stampede\, 15 years later in 1992. Since then they’ve been recognized by SOCAN for their Lifetime Achievement\, been inducted into the SOCAN Songwriters Hall of Fame on five occasions and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame for their 1971 seminal hit “Sweet City Woman”.\nThe enduring musical legacy of The Stampeders\, celebrating 50 years… ‘better catch a noon train\, better get there for a rock ‘n’ rolling good time!’ \nWatch the Stampeders here. \nCOVID Protocols\n•Theatre Capacity is 100% (735 people) for this event.\n•As of March 11th\, masks are recommended but not mandatory.\n•At this time\, proof of vaccination is required but is scheduled to be lifted April 8th.\n•COVID protocols are subject to change depending on the COVID Climate and BC Provincial Health Orders.\n•Doors open 30 minutes prior to show time.\n•Not feeling well? SUMMARY:The Princess Bride Now Indoors at The Bailey at 7:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:Due to the weather The Princess Bride is Now Indoors at The Bailey Theatre. Doors at 7 pm and movie at 7:30 pm.\n\nTo make this fun event accessible to everyone films are by suggested donation of $5 per person. Tickets only available at the door. Cash or card payment available.\n\nRemember\, doors open at 7:00 pm. Get there early to buy your popcorn and get a good spot.\n\n\n \n\nOur first movie\, “The Princess Bride”\, is a classic fairy tale comedy\, with swordplay\, giants\, an evil prince\, a beautiful princess\, and yes\, some kissing.\nA grandfather reads the book “The Princess Bride” to his grandson who is at home sick. The grandson is sure he won’t like the story\, as it’s romance and he prefers something with lots of action and “no kissing”.\nButtercup is a farm girl who must marry Prince Humperdinck of Florian\, even though she doesn’t love him. She still mourns the death of her one true love\, Westley\, who went away to sea\, only to be killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts. But before she can be married Buttercup is kidnapped by a band of bandits: clever Vizzini\, a giant named Fezzik\, and expert swordsman Inigo Montoya. Hot on their heels is the infamous Dread Pirate Roberts\, followed by the Prince and his men.\n\nWhat will happen to Buttercup? Will the Prince get her back by force or ransom? Why is the Dread Pirate Roberts chasing them? And what will the grandson think of the story in the end?\n“The Princess Bride” is a movie beloved by “grown-ups” that you’ll now get to share in a big screen experience with your kids.\n“Children can see it as a bright\, frothy adventure while adults will appreciate the subtlety and the sheer wit.” – William Gallagher\, BBC\n\nDirector: Rob Reiner Cast: Cary Elwes\, Robin Wright\, Mandy Patinkin / Genre: Adventure\, Family\, Fantasy\, Romance/ Length: 1h 38 mins / Rating: PG / Country: USA / Language: English\n\n97% Rotten Tomatoes\n\nThe other screening in this series is “The Lego Movie” on July 16. Irreverent fun\, with well-known actors channeling their inner Lego personas from superheroes to average Joe’s\, or Emmetts.\n\nThe Silver Screen Outdoor Movie is sponsored by Bounce Radio\, Columbia Basin Trust\, Kootenay Savings Credit Union\, Teck Metals Ltd. and Tourism Rossland\, and made possible thanks to support from the Government of British Columbia and BC Arts Council.
