DESCRIPTION:Classic fiddle meets acoustic chamber folk with an otherworldly edge. \nStarting off our final Music in the Park concert at 6.15 pm are “The Golden City Fiddlers”! \n“The Golden City Fiddlers” started in 2006 after attending the BC Oldtime Fiddle camps at Selkirk College Castlegar campuses each summer and have been playing locally events ever since. The group consists of 10 to 15 mature musicians. who play Oldtime dance fiddle music. \nHeadlining tonight at 7pm we have the “Raine Hamilton String Trio.” Resonant\, acoustic chamber folk with an otherworldly edge\, and a lyric presence that cuts deep are their touchstones with prism-clear vocals + strings. \nRaine is a singer-songwriter\, writing for violin and voice\, as well as for guitar and voice. Joined by cello and upright bass\, expect string arrangements that push and pull\, that move as they console. \nRaine’s latest work\, the full-length album “Brave Land” (2021-22)\, is a concept album about mountains\, and the courage and wisdom that they represent. \n“Raine Hamilton’s storytelling is almost ethereal in its energy and tone. SUMMARY:The Fugitives headline with openers Rumour Mill at Kootenay Savings Music in the Park
DESCRIPTION:The perfect pairing of indie-folk duo “Rumour Mill” followed by Brendan McLeod’s modern folk quartet “The Fugitives”. \nOpening the evening is “Rumour Mill“\, an indie-folk duo headed by multi-instrumentalists\, Anna Katarina and Aline Daigle\, currently residing in beautiful Nelson\, BC. Imagine the sounds of Fleetwood Mac\, Brandi Carlile and First Aid Kit melding with a lush topography of violin\, harmonies\, keys\, guitar and mandolin. \nTheir debut EP\, “Daylight’s Free”\, released in April 2019\, quickly earned respect and attention on the international stage – charting in the top 100 in US College Radio\, leading to a nomination for Artist of the Year at the 2019 Kootenay Music Awards\, Top 100 in CBC Searchlight\, and a full scholarship to the 2020 International Folk Alliance Conference in New Orleans\, LA. \nIn September 2020\, they released “Gone With The Wine”. The self-produced EP sees the duo mature in their sound\, ringing with a touch of a broken heartedness\, and pivoting slightly from their more happy-go-lucky debut.\nWith melancholic melodies\, soulful harmonies and lyrics that weave the listener through an exploration of timeless themes\, these ladies will sweep you off your feet and leave you wanting more! \nHeadlining at 7pm are “The Fugitives“\, a dynamic modern folk quartet\, with 4-part harmony and a variety of instruments (guitar\, bass\, kick-drum\, banjo\, violin\, balalaika and harmonica). They jump from foot-stomping sing-alongs to show-stopping a capella ballads to insightful political and storytelling songs. \nA folk collective headed by songwriters Adrian Glynn and Brendan McLeod\, the band has toured extensively through Canada\, Western Europe\, and the UK. They’re joined by banjo player Chris Suen (Viper Central) and violinist Carly Frey (The Coal Porters). Over the past twelve years\, they’ve earned a reputation for unforgettable live shows\, brimming with complex harmonies\, infectious storytelling and top-notch musicianship. \nTheir most recent album\, “The Promise of Strangers” was nominated for Canadian Folk and Western Canadian Music Awards and won Best Folk Album of 2019 from the German Music Critic’s Association. A force of nature from the wilds of British Columbia where she grew up\, where she spent her days dreaming of adventures and song. She discovered her voice on the open scene in New York\, and took that voice to the blues club scene in Toronto\, only to wind up singing and dancing in the streets of Paris. Ndidi’s last album\, “These Days“ – by far her most personal to date – is a chronicle\,from A to Z\, of a relationship which lasted just one year. One year in which her heart was broken. “Dark Swing” was written between Paris and Los Angeles\, and released to in 2014. The album is an infusion of sounds distilled around this incredibly rare voice. Through her singing Ndidi invites us into a musical universe filled with waves blues\, folk\, rock\, pop and country that results in a musical journey that starts and ends in the soul. Holly Hyatt is a vocalist\, songwriter\, acoustic and electric bass guitar player from the beautiful Slocan Valley. Holly’s debut solo album “Wild Heart” (2019)\, featuring Memphis Soul tinged single “River Flows”\, received rave reviews. DESCRIPTION:“Baker Street Blues” rocks into Music in the Park at 6.15 pm. After playing in various successful bands for over 30 years\, Stelio Calagias (lead singer\, guitar\, harmonica) and his brother-in-law Phil Wilson-Birks (bass guitar) finally fulfilled their lifelong dream of creating their own 4 piece electric blues band now known as “Baker Street Blues.” After only 5 years and over 200 shows the band has achieved outstanding success. “Baker Street Blues” is rated number 1 on the Reverbnations charts locally and regionally and #8 nationally with a rapidly growing fan base playing at various venues in the Kootenays. The band is rounded out with Ryan Telegdy (lead guitar)\, & Tim Potter (drums). In 2018 the band was nominated by the Kootenay Music Awards for best song in the blues category. The core group is Glenn Radley (Drums)\, Erika Einarson (Percussion)\, Niall Cade (Tenor Sax)\, Bryn Herperger (Bass)\, Garrett Malenko (Trumpet)\, Benjamin James Hill (Trombone)\, Aaron Bartel (Bari Sax) and Anatol Rennie (Keyboards/Synths).  \n“Apollo Suns” construct jazz influenced songs for accessible and catchy tracks for listeners of all backgrounds. They love to cover rock and punk tunes from the 1980s to the early 2000s and have started writing their ow originals. Learn more at http://ucrastringband.ca. \nOur very own Lisa Nicole headlines tonight with her band from 7-8 pm!  A true musical self-starter whose story-driven lyrics are fused with a modern country sound and a strong yet carefree stage presence\, Lisa Nicole has earned warm admiration from fans and deep respect from industry peers alike who value her tireless work ethic and her fun-loving personality. \nHailing from Castlegar\, her childhood was sprinkled with the sounds of Shania Twain\, Martina McBride\, and the Dixie Chicks\, Lisa Nicole discovered her own love of singing at the age of 8. By 15\, she was playing regular jam sessions at Kootenay-area bars\, which required her to be escorted on and offstage due to herage. After high school\, Lisa followed her ambitions to Selkirk College of Contemporary Music and Technology\, completing a ‘Songwriting and Performance’ diploma with a Major in Vocals.  \nIn 2013\,Lisa Nicole made a strong entrance into the Canadian country music industry with her debut EP\, “It Got Ugly” and a showcase at the 2013 Canadian Country Music Awards. Industry recognition followed with 2014 BC Country Music Association Award nominations for the Ray McAuley Horizon Award and Music Video of the Year. She went to the Canadian mainstages of Sunfest\, Rockin’ River Fest\, The Calgary Stampede\, and Sturgis North Music Fest\, and capped off a banner year by winning the 2015 BCCMA/Music BC Artist Development Project\, which included a Nashville songwriting trip and placement Canada’s Music Incubator 10-week Artist Entrepreneur Program.  \nLisa Nicole’s Award Manifested into the2016 EP release of “Come Find Me”\, produced byTom McKillip and Carly McKillip\, which led to coast-to-coast Canadian tour\, three radio single releases\, two more BCCMA nominations\, a once-in-a-lifetime impromptu on-stage performance with Keith Urban at a Nashville pop-up concert\, and back-to-back Canadian Music Week Showcases in 2017 and 2018. DESCRIPTION:Classic old country rock meets concert band pieces\, show tune medleys and marches.\n\nOpening this week are Slocan Valley’s very own Diamond Willow at 6.15 pm. A classic old country and country rock trio\, Diamond Willow’s set list spans from Patsy Kline to The Eagles. Delaine Hird on lead vocals has a beautiful singing voice reminiscent of Loretta Lynn or Patsy Cline. Gene Hird on acoustic guitar performs the signature and recognizable licks with great precision and tone. Rounding off the bottom end on bass guitar and providing exceptional backing harmonies on vocals is Joe Jmaeff.\n\nHeadlining tonight from 7-8 pm is The Trail Maple Leaf Band! The theme for tonight’s concert program is “music associated with the movies”.\n\n“The Trail Maple Leaf Band” was formed in 1917 when an older community band\, “The Trail Italian Band”\, changed its name. DESCRIPTION:The Trail & District Arts Council is very excited to get the community together again at Kootenay Savings Music in The Park!\n\nTonight\, rock meets Scottish piping for an evening of dancing as we kick things off with the local band BOOMER at 6.15 pm. This rockin’ trio is made up of Jim Fike on drums and vocals\, Collin Foli on bass and vocals and Harvey Miner on guitar and vocals.\n\nThe Trail Pipe Band will then be playing pipe band favourites from their huge repertoire from 7-8pm.\n\nTrail Pipe Band is 100 years old and has an active roster of 10 pipers and 8 drummers in performance. The tartan kilts they wear today are modeled after the uniform of the Scots Guards: Royal Stuart tartan kilts and plaids; with green tunics for the pipers and red tunics for the drummers. Their goal is to promote the Scottish tradition by teaching the arts of piping and drumming. Scottie School of Highland Dance has been running in Castlegar since 1994 under teacher Jaydeen Ashton.
