SUMMARY:UCRA Mountain String Band/Petunia and The Vipers - Music in the Park
DESCRIPTION:Trail and District Arts Council presents Kootenay Savings Music in the Park Petunia and The Vipers with opening act UCRA Mountain String Band Thursday August 24h at 6:15 pm at Gyro Park in Trail. \nThe Trail & District Arts Council is very excited to get the community back together this Summer at Gyro Park for Music in The Park. With eleven shows and two acts per night\, from June 22 to August 31\, it’s the perfect opportunity for all the family to get together outside and listen to great live music. This season we have a great mix of music from local favourites to touring talent! \nOn August 24 UCRA Mountain String Band play their brand of fine\, homegrown Kootenay greygrass before Petunia and The Vipers return with their fun mix of hillbilly-flavoured-swing inflected-ragtime. \nUCRA Mountain String Band is borne of equal parts perspiration\, inspiration and appropriation\, forged by the flames of countless campfires\, and nuanced with a touch of grey and mis-spent youth to give you bluegrass with a Kootenay twist. Brought to you by Ian Johnston on guitar\, Brian Taylor on mandolin and guitar and Dale Green on bass. \nPetunia & the Vipers bring their avant-Country goodtime show to Gyro Park with a sound that has been described as if Hank Williams met Tom Waits and Elvis at Woody Guthrie’s Hobo junction. \n“Petunia and the Vipers” includes Stephen Nikleva on electric guitar\, a 40+ year veteran of the touring circuit and former member of Ray Condo and the Ricochets fame\, who has been called “One of the 10 best guitar players alive today”. Stephen is joined by lap steel guitar virtuoso Jimmy Roy who has played with Wanda Jackson\, Ray Condo and the Ricochets\, Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boys\, and a host of other Canadian roots bands. \n“ Foot-tapping country & western laced with rock and jazz.” – The New York Post \nBring a lawn chair. Admission is by donation – $3 minimum suggested. Or support the Trail Arts Council’s programming by buying a Season Pass for the whole summer for $50! Passes will be available soon. \nThis show is made possible thanks to support from Kootenay Savings Credit Union\, Teck Trail Operations\, Columbia Basin Trust\, BC Arts Council\, BC Touring Council\, the Government of Canada\, Tourism South Kootenay\, Pharmasave Trail and our media partner Bounce Radio. We also gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia. \nLast show of the season:\nAugust 31: White Lightning get you dancing with their blues\, rock and Boogie Band vibes before the 2 Bit Jug Band‘s old-time jazz and blues from the 1920s and ‘40s.
