The footage was largely forgotten–until now.\nIn his acclaimed debut as a filmmaker\, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson presents a powerful and transporting documentary – part music film\, part historical record – created around an epic event that celebrated Black history\, culture\, and fashion. \nSUMMER OF SOUL (..Or\, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) shines a light on the importance of history to our spiritual well-being and stands as a testament to the healing power of music during times of unrest\, both past and present. The feature includes concert performances by Stevie Wonder\, Nina Simone\, Sly & the Family Stone\, Gladys Knight & the Pips\, Mahalia Jackson\, B.B. King\, The 5th Dimension and more. SUMMER OF SOUL premiered at the Sundance Film Festival\, where it won both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award.\nRated 99% by Rotten Tomatoes. \nDirector: Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson / Cast: Gladys Knight\, Mavis Staples\, Stevie Wonder / USA / English / 1h 58 mins / Documentary\, Music / Rating: PG \nWatch the trailer at https://youtu.be/slFiJpAxZyQ \n“Thompson’s feature debut intertwines music and politics in one of the best concert movies of all time.” – Mark Kermode\, Observer (UK) \n“This sizzling concert film is a resurrected piece of power-to-the-people art\, featuring dizzyingly rich footage from 1969’s Harlem Cultural Festival. [It] reclaims a forgotten piece of Black culture with aching timeliness.” – Tomris Laffly\, Harper’s Bazaar \n“Summer of Soul is both a tribute to the artists and\, just as importantly\, their audience — which is what makes it not just a great concert film but a great documentary\, period.” – David Fear\, Rolling Stone \n$12/person – No assigned seating.
